AboutThe Broyles Photography Difference - Pho

When is a good time to have a portrait taken?

When people ask me, what do you do? I reply that I help folks capture memories.  Then go on to explain how a quality portrait becomes a family heirloom - capturing a memory that become priceless over time.

Then people frequently ask me, "When is a good time to capture a memory"?

At Michael Broyles Photography we understand that we are capturing a memory rather than simply taking a picture. Capturing a memory is challenging work.  The quality of our work was recognized when we were named Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers of East Tennessee.

As years quickly pass, today becomes tomorrow's memory. A hand on the tummy of an expectant mother, a baby's smile, the laugh of a two year old, and even in the attitude of a teenage girl - should be captured by a professional photographer. Most assuredly, the legacy of a parent's portrait grows more valuable with the passing of time.

And, most importantly, capturing an heirloom memory is a combination of knowledge, insight, and art.

Knowledge

  • Know your lighting - photography is the art of painting with light
  • Know your camera - professional photography is pushing the limits of your equipment
  • Know your software - digital photography requires software to render your image

Insight

  • See into relationships - observe how people relate
  • See beyond the smile - look for a person's mannerisms
  • See the person - capture a peek of the persona

Art

  • Use the rule of thirds - old master's rule of positioning
  • Don't be perfect - breaking the symmetry of a stain glass panel
  • Presentation is everything - we create an enjoyable event

Summary:

Knowing your craft is only the start of creating an heirloom portrait. The process also requires insight into the human condition and an artistic flair to connect the observer to the subject. At Michael Broyles Photography we work with our clients and together achieve this goal.
